i know that ed is a little upset about grizzly bear's new album veckatimest leaking so early. i debated blogging about it. but i love this album SO MUCH already i just have to. HAVE TO. it is absolutely perfect. but, seriously kids, go out and BUY IT when it's released. i know that i intend to get me some pretty pretty vinyl.



these are my two favorites. i had the live version of two weeks from letterman this summer and loved it. then i heard this version. and died a little from the pretty. i simply cannot WAIT to hear it on vinyl. i know this track alone will blow me away.

i currently have it playing on repeat on my record player. and i by repeat i mean i have to physically put the needle back to the beginning after it ends. haha. but it just sounds so lovely on vinyl. i have several versions i'm going to share with you including a cover by kate tucker.

i just got les bains douches which is a live album by joy division, recorded on december 18th, 1979 at les bains douches, Paris (as well as a few other places in europe) on vinyl and it is pretty much amazing. i really need a time machine so i can go back and time and see joy division live.

i've been listening to all my beatles on vinyl. i inherited (stole) a lot of the older stuff from my parents and found rubber soul for $1 at a thrift store (score!), but i really need to get revolver and let it be! here's some of my favorite tracks that i don't often see talked about.

curious talk at the fotomat

i went record shopping yesterday and bought two albums i'd been lusting after and two albums on a whim. the two i bought on purpose were descended like vultures and asleep at heaven's gate both by rogue wave. then i stumbled across a bootleg of libertines songs called another boy, another planet that i just had to purchase. it had various live versions of songs plus some tracks from the babyshambles sessions--including adam green of the moldy peaches doing a cover of "what a waster." so then i also bought wincing the night away by the shins even though i'd only heard one song. it was a damn good song so i thought i'd be impulsive. it was worth it.

Looking back, how could I have been so bleedin' stupid? Of course he was writing about himself. But I didn't go in and grab him and ask, 'What's up?' I have to live with that. Watching the film, there were moments when I wished I could have stepped into the film. Unfortunately, you can't."





"We never really listened to Ian's lyrics, to be honest," agrees Sumner. "At least, we never sat there and analysed them. It's a bit like reading your friend's letters, I suppose. But when he died, I did go through his lyrics and find myself thinking, 'Oh, God.' You look at it through a different filter because of what happened."

i recently bought unknown pleasures on vinyl. it is definitely one of the best albums ever. i think it may have the best opening track i've ever heard, thus i am sharing it with you now.

can you feel the knife?

so grizzly bear is easily one of my favorite bands currently making music. i bought their new ep and got it last week. it is pretty much as amazing as i thought it would be. it's got a few new versions of songs from yellow house and some damn good covers by css, band of horses and atlas sound. as well as a truly beautiful recording of dan rossen singing "deep blue sea." apparently it was recorded at his home. his voice is so pure. the album also has a studio version of their cover of the crystal's "he hit me (and it felt like a kiss)" which up til now was only availble as a daytrotter session or live.
